Rurik studied Chinese martial arts starting as a small child and was tutored by his mother. After she died, Kristof made sure to continue these lessons and found the boy other tutors, leading to Rurik's learning of several different Chinese martial arts.
Money and resource management. Rurik was raised to take over his father's security company, and so learned from an early age just how to handle employees, customers and finances.

Rurik can ignite his body in flames or with a bit more concentration, only certain parts of his body such as his fists.
He has some fire manipulation ability, but once a fire gets too large (say a whole house) he can't control the whole thing. He may be able to keep it from taking a particular path.
He has a certain affinity for birds, and keeps a pet Java Hill Mynah.
