Appearance: A youthful, pink-skinned being with a head shaped roughly like a curved triangle. Her ears, positioned at the top two 'corners' of that triangle, resemble a German Shepherd's, though they have rough edges from where they were cut. A "crown" of quartz crystals extends from just above her brow upward over her head, coming together in a vaguely steeple-like shape at its peak. Her hair flows out from behind the crystal ridge to form an unkempt, glittering, white mane. Her eyes are solid blue and almost cat-like in shape, and when viewed from the front come to sharp points toward the center of her face, which itself slants forward. Her legs resemble those of a deer's and are covered in fur, as are her arms (though she still has human-like hands) but the rest of her body, save those areas already mentioned. are bereft of any natural covering. She's fairly short, and her neck is slightly longer and thinner than a human's would be.

Skills:


Gem cutting/Boring: Quartz was raised as a digger and gem-cutter from birth in the Blue Band Burrow, and has become adept at both shaping gems and digging through hard earth or stone. She’s even become proficient at using her limited magic skills to cut gems, although she prefers using tools if she has to.


Magic shields: Quartz has become capable of what her father calls a ‘Prince Rupert’s shield.’ The shield is incredibly hard to damage normally (in several cases even standing up to boulders flung from siege weapons), but will shatter if one disrupts the external ‘tail’ of the shield. Quartz tries to circumvent this weakness by hiding the ‘bottom’ halves of her shields in the ground or behind walls.


Rudimentary combat magic: Quartz can repurpose her telekinesis magic into a form of self defense. Instead of ‘grabbing’ an object with the telekinetic field, she focuses the field into a sort of lance and moves it toward her target at speed. Quartz is capable of shattering granite with this tactic.


Singing: All beings in the Twilit Kingdom have a natural affinity for music, and Qaurtz is no exception. Quartz can easily sing at a professional level pretty much whenever she wants, and has an easy time harmonizing with other performers.


Quartz crystal growing: Quartz can channel her magic into forming quartz crystal formations. Due to the uncontrolled nature of her magic, these formations form very quickly, and Quartz has been known to utilize them offensively as impromptu spears or spike traps.


Basic survival skills: Quartz is skilled enough to forage and shelter herself in most wilderness settings (with the exception of the desert and other areas where general vegetation would be difficult to come by).


Sprinting: Quartz’s hooves allow her to move very quickly over rough terrain (topping out at roughly thirty miles per hour), although she has a large degree of difficulty maintaining speed on smooth concrete and slips constantly on smooth metal, tiled, hard plastic, or glass surfaces.

Abilities: Quartz is able to wield arcane magic, though the applications she can utilize it in are limited. She’s able to project it as a force (telekinesis), grow crystals, or form magical barriers. Much else is beyond her ability of control, due to her disability.

Personality: Quartz’s outward personality varies wildly depending on who she happens to be around. In the presence of Admari, Quartz acts very confident, almost brash, and indulges in a variety of impish behavior, often trying to get a friendly rise out of her father. Around other individuals she considers close friends or family she acts much the same, although she actively avoids pointed taunts or teasing.


Quartz is much quieter among strangers, even distrustful. She’ll avoid conversation with most people she perceives to be above ‘kid’ age unless they’re dressed in a service uniform (such as a flight attendant or security guard). She’s very slow to warm up to people she doesn’t know unless they are introduced by someone she already trusts.


Quartz is highly attached to her father, and has difficulty feeling safe when separated from him for an extended period of time.

Restrictions: Every spell Quartz casts is cast at full power, no matter what it is. This means she is incapable of using her magic for more delicate, or even most every-day tasks (for example, if she attempted to levitate a glass, it would shatter). Thanks to this disability, Quartz lives almost completely without magic.

Weapons and Precious Items: A pair of undecorated steel daggers with simple, leaf-shaped blades. These were a gift from Admari, forged for Quartz while they were on the campaign trail during the Second Gargoyle Invasion. They’re about the length of Quartz’s forearms.


Her enchanted amulet, which consists of a chunk of rose quartz crystal carved into the shape of a rose and set into a bronze pendant and hung from a gold chain. This amulet was a gift from Jovious and generates Quartz’s human disguise.

Phobias: Gargoyles. Quartz is utterly terrified of them. Even pictures of gothic churches can make Quartz feel uncomfortable. She will outright refuse to walk beneath them.


Dog/wolf people: Due to her past, Quartz has difficulty trusting canine humanoids in any capacity and will feel unsafe around them unless she gets to know them personally.


Wild dogs: This fear is not as strong as either of the former two, but Quartz is always wary of dogs unless she knows that they’re docile and currently domesticated.

History: Quartz was born into slavery to the Blue Band Pack, a tribe of dogmen hidden in the inner reaches of the region known as the Winding Peaks. During her childhood, her ears were cut by her captors, both as a sign of ownership and to sever her natural connection with the magic of her world (the organs which hyppen use to sense and channel magic are housed in their long ears). Her role as a slave was to excavate and cut gems for the pack’s hordes.


Shortly after Quartz turned eight years old, her and her mother made a desperate bid for escape. Quartz’s mother perished in the attempt, but Quartz eluded capture long enough to stumble onto Admari, who killed her pursuers and took over the role of her guardian. Admari and Quartz became close in the following years, eventually leading to their adoption of one another.


During Admari’s campaign against the gargoyles, Quartz came to be well-liked by the other members of the Company, becoming a sort of mascot for the unit. During the campaign, Quartz was taught rudimentary magic by a hyppen named Quick Silver (who she later dubbed her ‘uncle’), though due to her shortened ears she was unable to progress beyond the basic level.


Midway through the Windy Peaks campaign, Quartz was abducted and killed by Zenith’s gargoyles. She spent the next eight years in the Everafter (the Twilit Kingdom’s afterlife) reconnecting with her mother and biological father (who had passed before her birth), until she was wished back to life by Admari following his victory in the Celestial Game.
