| Character Name: 'Fifth.' _________________________ Fandom: Loosely inspired by Steven Erikson's 'Malavan Books of the Fallen' series _________________________ Date Of Birth: - _________________________ Alias: Fifth, the Fifth, Sir. _________________________ Apparent Age: Early 40s. ________________________ Origin: - ________________________ Race: Appears human. _________________________ Height: 6'4" _________________________ Weight: 280lbs _________________________ Gender: Male. _________________________ Physical Description: Fifth is a large, powerfully built man. Broad shoulders and arms thick with corded muscle, skin worn raw and calloused by strap of armour and gear from decades of campaigning. Graying black hair and dark eyes give him the air of a stone that has weathered many a storm. ___________________________ Known Relatives: None. _____________________________ Religion: The Fifth Legion. ______________________________ Skills: A laundry list of combat and tactics, and any learned in the life of a soldier. ________________________________ Abilities: Fifth is a man not to be reckoned with, second guessed, or denied. He often gets his way through shear weight of personality and confidence, neither of which has ever been found lacking. People far above his apparent station in life have been seen to buckle to his will through force of will.
He has an uncanny ability to see an enemy commander's intent almost before they themselves seem to know what they are doing, and is always one step ahead. This has not been able to save his Legion from being cut down to the handful that still fly it's colours today.
He can bolster the morale of allied troops with ease, and soldiers in his presence fight with a level of skill and determination far beyond what they should be capable. Men in his command have fought even with mortal wounds when the situation has been seen dire enough to warrant it. _________________________________ Alignment: Good. __________________________________ Personality: Fifth is often seen as a man of few words, unless there is something important to be done or if speaking to a member of his Legion. He seems unphased by anything the world has to throw at him, and is not known to be one to dwell on consequences or doubt. Known to be loyal to the Empire almost to a fault, many who would make themselves his enemy see this as a weakness, making him predictable and easily manipulated. None that have tried it have lived. ___________________________________ Powers: Fifth was once a deity of War, who was pulled to the earth by the arch-magi's of a long dead kingdom, who sought to use him as a weapon against their enemies, the Empire. He did not take well to being plucked from the pantheon
Fifth's abilities are subtle in most instances; his presence on the battlefield sways the outcome in his favour naturally, and he is the personification of martial skill and war. He is naturally resistant to magics, and has proven quite adept at laying waste to any foe that has been fielded against him and his Legion, although it is rare for him to take to the field of battle directly. ___________________________________ ____________________________ Class: Fallen deity ______________________________ Weapons and Precious Items: The seemingingly mundane kit and equipment of an Imperial Legionnaire, although he wears or carries a myriad of magical baubles with a wide range of subtle magical affects, as do most of the soldiers under his command. _______________________________ Sexual Preferences: Female. _______________________________ Occupation: Imperial Legion High Fist, commander of the eldest constant-standing Legion of the Empire. _________________________________ History: A thousand years ago, Fifth was a deity. A true god, of a pantheon of deities now forgotten and lost to the dusts of the passing centuries. He was plucked from his seat in the heavens by the arrogant arch-magi's of the dead kingdom of Adeiwyr, what was once the seat of the most powerful mortal magi in the known world. The war between Adeiwyr and the fledgling that would become the Empire was long and bloody, with tens of thousands of mortal soldiers killed in a single day of battle being a common occurence.
Eventually, the superior field-craft and battle-hardened mage-legions of the Empire had the upper hand and laid siege to the great capital of Adeiwyr. On the ropes and with defeat at hand, the arch-magi's wrot great and terrible magics and pulled down their civilization's incarnation of war to bring an end to the Empire. Their plan backfired.
Where once stood a vibrant and powerful kingdom now stands a small continent of bare stone, where nothing lives. Insulted that he had been pulled to earth, and usurped from his seat in the heavens, the entity that is now known as Fifth travelled the world for a time before finding himself almost comically drafted into the 5th Imperial Legion, which had arrived late to the war with Adeiwyr and deployed to more promising foreign lands to conquer. He has served in the 5th Legion for a millennium, his constant presence unrealized even by the soldiers of his Legion. All are aware that Fifth has always been there, and many know of stories of his deeds that date back hundreds of years, but the oddness of it never seems to dawn on anyone who hears them, be they soldier of his Legion, the common folk they interact with, or even so far as the distant seat of the Empire itself, a place in which the 5th Legion has not set foot in near as long as Fifth's presence among their ranks.
The Fifth Legion in it's hayday once numbered 10,000 strong, with an attachement of battle mages numbering near 2,000. The 5th Legion is the eldest Legion of the Empire, the only Legion of the original founding that has maintained a fighting-strength for the past 1,000 years, although they have numbered as little as a 1,000 at some points.
They are known as the Old Guard, the eldest Legion with outdated uniforms and tactics, traditions and mannerisms far different from the 'modern' Legions, such to the point that it is near impossible to resupply the Legion from the central provinces of the Empire. The 5th Legion's presence bolsters the morale of the younger Legions and chills the blood of Imperial commanders and High Fists (generals), as it is well known that Fifth has no qualms with cutting down officers and commanders he deems incompetent or corrupt. _________________________________ Status: Alive | |
