Personality: Kanji has a very tough exterior, a trait amplified by his facial feature and mannerisms. In reality he’s a very kind person with good practices. Though he still often gets into fights and smokes, he is conscious of hurting innocents and refrains from smoking in front of children and those who prefer him not to. He keeps to himself, but is fairly open and honest when spoken to. He ALWAYS keeps his promises as a matter of principle.

Restrictions: Kanji has remarkable physical endurance. He once suffered numerous knife and blunt wounds, some of which would normally be fatal, and proceeded to walk to the hospital. Training since adolescence has contributed to his toughness, but the reason for his extraordinary resilience is unknown. He is also quite strong as a result of his daily training.
Kanji’s ‘Danger Sense’ ability is merely a keen sixth sense developed from fighting all of his life. He can ‘feel’ an attack’s approach before it connects. This greatly helps him when fighting a large number of enemies.

Weapons and Precious Items: Kanji almost always wears a coat from his days as a gangster. On the left side of the collar there is a golden patch depicting the Roman numeral “II”; on the left side is a golden patch showing an English “Y”. Since the gang no longer exists, he never puts his arms through the sleeves. Kanji keeps a lighter and pack of cigarettes within the inner pockets of the coat.

History: Kanji’s life has been a wild rollercoaster of experiences for as long as he can remember. He never knew his father and his mother abandoned him when he was four. By fortune (or not depending on one’s opinion) he was adopted into a street gang known as the ‘Yagyuu-Shou’ (short for ‘Bison Boys’). Kanji grew up and learned his mannerisms for nearly a decade under the gang’s leader, a man known only as ‘Nii-san’.
The Yagyuu-Shou was a decent-sized gang of around 100 members at its highest point. The members prided themselves on being extraordinarily tough and having rules/regulations strict enough to successfully keep themselves bereft of police attention (for the most part). Necessity and caution were common limits on any sort of illegal activity and nearly all of their bouts with other gangs took place in areas offering little chance of collateral damage. Through territory expansion, their goal was to disband unruly gangs and assimilate those that could uphold their code. After years of traveling with them, Kanji worked his way up the ranks to become the leader’s ‘Number Two’, or second in command. Despite his age, the gang complied with the leader’s judgment out of respect.
After the gang leader’s untimely demise, Kanji forcibly took control of the gang for a short term. Deciding on one final mission, he led the Yagyuu-Shou in an aggressive campaign to gain full control over Japan’s southern islands (everywhere south of Shimonoseki). After his plan’s completion, Kanji disbanded the Yagyuu-Shou for good at the age of 14; thus fulfilling NIi-san’s final wish. With organized crime nearly diminished on his homestead, the collective forces of the police and Nobus could easily suppress any other uprisings themselves. Kanji then moved north to Tokyo City in attempts to start a new, clean life.
Kanji has had trouble adapting to society thus far. He doesn’t believe he has real-world skills of any particular use and isn’t sure of what to do with his life. In truth he regrets disbanding the gang. In those days he had stability and purpose… but a promise is a promise.
