Laharl has a long history, he is the only son of the former Overlord Krichevskoy and his mother Lora who was a human who visited the Netherworld for her own reasons. Some say it was to become stronger, and others say it was because she wanted to learn something. Whatever the reason, this resulted in Laharl being born later along the line.
His mother died, having sacrificed herself to save her son who had a illness his father or anyone else couldn't heal. As a result, Laharl had a negative opinion of 'love' at first(or at least outright calling it that) and a slight resentment to his father because of what happened.
Years later, Laharl's went to sleep but instead ended up going to sleep for years do to someone putting something in his drink. During that time, the Overlord had fallen into more chaos in a free for all and his father, Krichevskoy, had died sealing the Lord of Terror Baal back to where they came from.
Etna, another demon woke Laharl up and tried to do her best to guide Laharl to be a good Overlord; it being her last promise to the late Krichevskoy. At first, Etna didn't particularly like Laharl but over time became close. Laharl met a host of quirky companions in his bid to win back his father's Netherworld, and after a long hard battle, and many misadventure later, succeeded.
